Northampton County Schools (NCS) currently has one high school in Northampton County. It is important to the Board of Education that we expand opportunities for students that afford career and college promise options for every high school student and maximize opportunities to access college sooner. Furthermore, Northampton County Schools recognizes that formal articulation agreements between partners are instrumental in this expansion. The Northampton County Board of Education, Halifax Community College Board of Trustees, and Roanoke Chowan Community College Board of Trustees have supported our vision to maximize career and college promise opportunities for all students. This past school year, high school administrators and central office staff began discussions to reorganize the high school, dividing into three academies. Each academy promotes high school students obtaining industry credentials, certifications, and college credits in areas of interest. The Freshmen Academy services all incoming 9th graders regardless of a student’s choice to complete their high school diploma through either the Service Academy or the National Academy Foundation. The Freshman Academy has been redesigned and reinstated in the high school structure. It has been four years since the high school has organized to purposefully schedule 9th graders to be taught by a team of core academic teachers.
