My Daily Foodways
Exploring different cultures is an experience one cannot explain. Comparing and contrasting foodways allows the society we live in today to differentiate themselves from others. My foodways might be so different than someone in California or in China. I analyzed myself and food the foods I eat are more health conscious than I thought. Foods that I eat on a daily basis include chicken, spinach, eggs, apples, pistachios and cereal. I eat chicken and the eggs for the protein and the low fat they provide. The spinach is a way for me to “eat my greens,” as my parents would say. Contrary to the foods I always eat, I rarely eat ice-cream, cakes, pretzels and cookies. These foods are high in sugar and do not follow my “healthy diet.” Foods I consider necessary to “make a meal” include a protein, fat and carbohydrate. My favorite home cooked meal is Chicken Parmigiana. I eat this meal at least three times a week. My family and I prepare home cooked meals almost every night. This is important for a few reasons. First, we bond over the experience. Occasionally when cooking with flour, we make a mess and throw it on each other. My mother hates cleaning it all up, but in the moment we all laugh and enjoy the time. Making our own dinners also help save money and it is a lot cheaper than going out every night. My family spends around one hundred fifty dollars per week and we get breakfast, lunch dinner and snacks for six to seven days. If my family went out it could end up costing around one hundred dollars and for only one meal. Dinner as a child was and is still the same for me now, I eat most of my meals home.
