Temple University Personal Statement

I am applying to Temple University three years after dropping out of college. The past few years have been a valuable learning experience and I don’t necessarily regret putting my schooling on hold, but time away from the institution of higher learning has profoundly deepened my appreciation for what a college degree is truly worth and the potential it can unlock. In this day and age, receiving an adequate education isn’t just a fortuity gifted, rather virtually a necessity for anyone who aspires to improve their station in life and visions to leave an indelible mark on society. I look to do both, which is why I am seeking admission to Temple. I left college because, quite candidly, I didn’t want to be there, nor was I especially ready. A …show more content…
As a matter of fact, my family tree is filled with educators; teaching may even be a genetic inclination. Moreover, I thoroughly enjoyed instructing both kids and adults in the limited capacities I have, such as coaching athletics and tutoring. The confluence of my experiences abroad and personal proclivity toward teaching has bolstered my resolve to become a teacher but also made me understand that eschewing my own education was hampering my own development. I couldn’t begin to help anyone until I completed my own …show more content…
It doesn’t focus on the quantitative effort of the player so whether he or she tallied a copious amount of stats or contributed very little in measurable individual data isn’t taken into account. BPM only assigns a plus or minus rating. If the team was winning while the player was active then he or she would get a positive, if they were losing a negative rating is given; I’m pretty keen on this stat. Imperfect albeit, BPM ventures to gauge a player’s qualitative, holistic input to a team effort and though it may be a bit cliché or contrived to use sports as a metaphor for life I believe BPM is suitable for just that. As individuals, we should aim to be net

After last week’s writing, I found myself in quite a fog of insecurity. Thankfully the most recent installment of YITE brought me back to the sunny side of teaching philosophy. Reading about the art of teaching was rather inspiring even. The quote from the text, “approaching instruction in a variety of ways to provide multiple paths for students to both learn the content and develop the skills of the curriculum is artistry (pg 147),” caught my attention. Often in my life I have gotten the impression that some people consider the position of a teacher as that of merely a figurehead, an adult to put in front of a group of kids to keep them occupied.…

“I know applying to colleges is the last thing you want to do right now, but you might change your mind,” a trusted friend told me. It was December of my senior year of high school, and college application deadlines were approaching quickly. I was recovering from a major illness at the time, and wasn’t ready to think about college. My plan was to spend a year living at home and working before I pursued higher education. In the following months, my recovery progressed rapidly.…

Teaching provides one the chance to mentor students in areas outside the scope of a classroom whether through coaching a sport or sponsoring a club. Mostly, teachers have the chance each day to make a lasting impression on someone else. Teachers have the opportunity to be strong, positive influences on 100s of students over the course of a career. Not many professions provide that.” (“Why do I want to teach?”…

Of all the fondest memories I’ve acquired in my lifetime, one particular memory that proves itself to be especially notable was the very first time my delicate three-year old foot touched American soil. I recall clutching my mother’s warm, rugged hands between the gaps of my fingers, sensing her fearful excitement to be amongst the buildings that touched the sky and the air that is filled with the aroma of opportunity. We dreamt of many things, but never beyond our wildest ambitions, did we ever dream that I would be in a position to potentially guide other individuals trying to navigate this place we all call home. One of my biggest childhood dreams came into fruition a short while ago when I was admitted into Vanderbilt University.…

Coming to the conclusion that I would like to transfer from Temple University was a hard and heartbreaking decision, but I felt it had to be done. The sense of community and the support on campus was positive and I’d love to see that in the school I attend in the fall. I admire how close-knit Temple is despite its size. However, the size of the school has been an issue in the aspect of the university's overall organization. There was no entrance exam for Mandarin Chinese, and when I tried to be placed into a higher Mandarin class I was told to meet with several different people and there was a lot of miscommunication.…

Throughout my academic journey at San Jose City College, I have taken many useful courses that led to various outside experiences, which have resulted in my preparation for Community Studies. The reason to teach doesn’t come from the lessons a book can teach us, but comes from a passion and drive within us to give others those lessons. Teaching requires an acquired taste from people, for it does not appear as an easy job, nor will it ever. While I have always had a desire to serve others through educating, I can only give thanks to my educator-filled family and prior teachers for catalyzing this drive in me. Teaching has always had some impact in my life, whether from my family influences or my own aspirations. Two out of five of my aunts were elementary teachers, my mother taught at a day care, my step-mother taught German at a Christian school, and my father currently studies to become one as well.…
