I am very undecided with what I want to do, but what interests me is something in the field of Social Work and Probation. After high school, I plan on attending BYU-Idaho where I will study psychology and receive my bachelors degree in social work, then pursue a career in social work and the field of probation and eventually get married and start a family. I believe that things like social work are very important to our society.

Most schools base their programs on courses, such as humanities, natural sciences and social sciences, as well as learning professional ethics and advocacy skills. While studying social work I will be practicing a variety of social welfare settings with a variety of populations. The focus will be on human rights, social and economic justice, and respect for diversity. A major in social work prepares me to work with individuals, families, households, groups, organizations, and communities. In undergraduate social work programs, I will be prepared to work in strength-based social work practice, work toward social work licensure and eventually go on to graduate level social work education. Entry level social work positions usually require being a high school graduate and the age of 19. Two years of college, is the associate degree which will qualify me for higher paying positions and more quality experience. A four year degree is the bachelor degree, which gives me a wider range of job opportunities, higher pay, and possibly benefits such as life insurance, 401k, medical insurance, paid time off, etc. When I receive my bachelor degree in social work, I will be able to get my license and become a licensed social worker (LCSW). A four year degree, for most, is required for entry-level jobs. After getting a bachelor’s degree, I will intern at a local social work …show more content…
Now, one in 31 U.S. adults are on probation. The Justice Department said the number of people on probation has steadily increased. Idaho is in the top five states where one in 13 adults is behind bars or under community supervision. Another reason why being a probation officer is a secure job is because there are three times the amount of criminals on probation than in jail, prison, or on parole. The president of the American Federation of State , Rai Douglas, said that there are too many offenders, and not enough probation officers to supervise them. For example, in 2009 the head of the probation office program was trying to work out a way so that they can get the number of probationers per officer down to at least 50. Being a probation officer is definitely not a slow job. There is a lot of busy work involved to keep organized and in order to ensure their offenders victims more safety and freedom from criminals. Probation officers must meet many court ordered deadlines, which contributes to heavy workloads and extensive
