This generation has been impacted greatly by technology. SAS (Statistical Analysis System), a computer software program to analyze data, has been selling to companies all over the country. This software has become extremely valuable to companies like banks, and credit card companies because it helps them to detect fraud. Although they started out strong, and have been very successful, recently they have run into a couple of problems. SAS systems are incredibly complicated to run, and companies would need to hire a proper IT in order to use it. Also, SAS is very expensive costing around 1 million dollars, not including renewal subscriptions. Recently, companies like IBM have posed a threat, and other similar systems are being developed. Currently, IT’s are high in demand all over the world, and turnover rates are at about 22 percent. Companies are doing everything they can to hire and keep hardworking employees. We have discussed in class a couple of ways to get employees to stay at a company, and although places like Apple pay their employees more, often times that isn’t the reason employees stay. It has been found that most often employees will don’t care as much about the money as they do the work environment. SAS is going to have to pay their IT’s well, but more importantly, they need to give them a reason to want to go to work every day. They could have small incentives like casual wardrobes, and bring your dog to work days. They need to be open and listen to their employee’s needs. Also, to keep them working hard, SAS could offer incentive based raises, and bonuses. Although SAS is having a hard time right now, a couple of small changes could turn things around. SAS is very important to businesses, and there will continue to be a demand for the system. That being said, SAS needs to be prepared for competitors like IBM, and continue to make improvements towards hiring and keeping skilled
