In the information age, there are many ways that organizations can utilize the internet to maximize profits and bring more customers to them. The internet has brought several new ideas to the table in areas such as marketing, management, data storage, communication, etc. These utilities have become vital for many companies in the last fifteen years due to the rapidly growing usage of the web. One aspect I would like to cover is peer to peer networking. Although it is a highly specialized service, certain businesses can benefit greatly from it. P2P networking derives from the concept that instead of having a server transfer data to clients individually, each client has the ability to upload data to other clients in the network. One of the largest is cloud computing storage. If clients are all sharing the same data, it is much easier to store that data locally on each computer, and have it accessible by others. This medium has two main advantages: convenience and reliability. It is convenient because the data is readily available anywhere and can be downloaded from local or nearby peers rather than a central server that could be across the country. And reliability is a factor since it is very unlikely that a cloud of peers will experience a downtime all at once. Storage of sensitive or personal information on an open P2P network is a massive liability and should be avoided at all costs. Another is the trust factor. Many times data being stored on peers’ computers can raise concerns if it is not well documented. Tor, for example, is a P2P anonymous communication software that has been monitored heavily by governments due to the fact that it is often used to host illegal content. Users of Tor, whether their intentions are good or not, are often targeted because the illegal data is still being stored all on users’ computers. This ties directly into the fact that P2P networking has a somewhat tarnished name due to the high amount of illegal file sharing that goes through it, through protocols such as
