As a tech company and a sharing platform we believe that we should not decide what is censored or not. We believe that it should be up to the government or third party in each area to choose, we just provide the platform. Our principled position on this issue is, to do whatever it takes to make money for our stockholders. This means implementing Facebook in as many locations as possible to grow our community, provide more jobs, and employ more people. Providing a version of Facebook to china will gain access to 1.4 billion Chinese people (NYT, 2016). The more we expand the more money we can create and provide for our microcosm we have created. We have a fiduciary duty to our stockholders, meaning we follow the economic model of corporate social responsibility. We seek profit within the law and do not cheat our customers (Panmore, 2016). Without the pursuit to make a profit there would not be a reason to exist in our current state of being. We believe that even with the government or third person party’s being able to censor whatever content they deem unacceptable for their country. We have an obligation to grow and expand our reach for our shareholders, employees, and the communities we have created. There are many moral considerations we had to take into when making this decision such as groupthink, selective screening, different cultures and societal norms.
