A Brief Definition Of Courage

There is a word that has held importance through history and still has the power to inflict several different feelings and opinions. This word is courage. Originally, the word courage stems from the Old French word corage, which means heart or innermost feelings. The latin root “cor” represents inner strength. In today’s English language, courage is commonly referred to as a quality that someone has that allows them to face a fear or danger strongly and willingly. Originally when this word first came around, it was known to refer mostly to men and it carried a masculine quality because it was typically the men who showed a more obvious example of courage. As time went by and the world changed, the definition was broadened. Courage has always been a great attribute to have throughout time. Courage cannot be defined by a certain set of qualifications. One question that is frequently asked about courage is, “How extravagant and large does the act need to be in order to be called courageous?” When you think of having courage, most often people have the preconceived notion that danger or risks are involved. Having courage does not always involve something big such as saving a child out of a burning building, although that is courageous.
