What do you do before you’re the most important man in the United States of America? Some presidents are practically born into it, while others not so much. Ronald Reagan our 40th and one of our most prestigious presidents definitely did have the average life before he became president.
Ronald Wilson Reagan was born to John Edward and Nelle (Wilson) Reagan on February 6th 1911, in Tampico Illinois. Growing up Reagan was typical boy. The Reagan family were devoted Roman Catholics and Liberals. His father was an alcoholic and later on Reagan recalls pulling out his father, Jack, out from the snow where he had passed out drunk. Growing up his father gave him the nickname Dutch because he looked like a fat dutch boy. Once Reagan experienced a near death situation. He was playing underneath a train and it began to suddenly move . Reagan lived with his parents and his brother Neil in several towns growing up do to his father's ongoing search for a higher paying job, since his father had only received a grade school education . He broadcasted everything from the Chicago Cubs games to Big Ten Football. He got paid ten dollars for every game and traveling expenses. In 1937 he was covering the Chicago Cubs spring training game where he would meet a Hollywood agent. Recently a Hollywood actor had died in a car crash and Warners Brothers was looking for a replacement, Ronald Reagan fit the part. Warner Brothers made him take a screen test; he passed. He signed a seven year contract, paying two-hundred dollars a week with Warner Brothers. During this time he appeared in more than fifty grade “B” films, his most famous, Knute Rockne—All American (1940). That same year Knute Rockne—All American had been released he married Jane Wyman. Ronald and Jane were considered “the couple” of the forties.They had two children together: Maureen Reagan and Michael Reagan
