Biography of Melanie Martinez Melanie was born on April 28, 1995 in Astoria, queens to parents of portion region and Dominican descent. Her family moved to Baldwin, New York on Long Island when Martinez was 4. She listened to Brandy, Britney Spears, Shakira, The Beatles , Tupac shakur , Biggie smalls and Christina Aguilera growing up, and says she wanted to have wanted to be a singer at a young age. Martinez attended Plaza Elementary School, her teacher Mr. Nadien with teaching her how to sing, and in kindergarten, Martinez began writing poetry. Martinez did not have many to have friends growing up and stayed inside most of the time as she was "very emotional", and found it difficult to explain her feelings, crying when overwhelmed. …show more content…
She has really bad anxiety after she plays and before she plays. She just likes to chill out and watch some cartoons. She's not really much of a socialite when it comes to hanging out at festivals and stuff like that. But hopefully she’ll get to see a couple people play tomorrow [at Lollapalooza]. Kehlani is a good friend of Melanie. Kehlani playing tomorrow as well.
She won her battle round singing "Lights" by Ellie Goulding against Caitlin Michele and then won her knockout round singing "Bulletproof" by La Roux against Sam James. She auditioned with "Toxic" by Britney Spears, getting her a spot on Team Adam. Martinez then pulled off a good performance when she sang "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes for her Top 10 performance. She had an iTunes top 10 hit and was once again voted to the next round. Choosing to join judge Adam Levine's team, she eventually made it to week five before getting eliminated via audience vote. Martinez began working on solo material and in 2014 released the Kinetics- and One Love-produced EP Dollhouse on Atlantic Records. In 2015 she returned with her debut full-length album, Cry Baby, which featured the singles "Pity Party" and "Sippy Cup."
