I think that there were factors in Nic’s life that could have led him into trying drugs. One of these factors being divorce. I think that divorce is and will always be one of the hardest things on a family and the children within that family. In Nic’s case it was a little harder, mostly because his mother and father lived in different states. Children living in two different households are more than likely to participate in acts which will fall between the cracks. …show more content…
No matter what Nic did, his father still believed in him. His father kept in mind that Nic was not the person he had raised, he was someone different. Nic had a split personality, while under the influence of drugs he was a whole different person, one his father did not recognize. Regardless of this, his father supported both personalities. David understood that Nic had a problem, but that it could be fixed. In his book David wrote “A parent can only be as happy as his unhappiest child,” which in turn left David to plummet with Nic. He also wrote “I became addicted to my sons addiction.” I was very moved by David’s loyalty to his son. I was touched to read of a fathers love that was as deep and binding as the love that I feel as a mother
