A Basic Upper-Level Degree In Criminology

Decent Essays
I'll start off with a bit of my background. I'm from the Rio Grande Valley, as it is commonly known in Texas. It's located at the southernmost tip of Texas near South Padre Island. I attended the University of Texas at Dallas and earned a BA in Criminology. I did not know I would be taking this route of attending law school until I started taking some basic upper-level courses in juvenile law and constitutional law. They were simply scratching the surface of what an actual law class would be however, it peaked my interest.

My interest in a legal career was further piqued during my attendance at Sunflower Girls State where I was able to attend a real trial with the District Attorney and participate in mock trials. Experiences such as these both inspired and encouraged me to set my goals towards law school.…

I am currently a sophomore at Marquette University double majoring in psychology and criminology & law studies. These two fields of study are both something I have always had a strong interest for. I started my freshmen year of college at Marian University double majoring in psychology and forensic science with a minor in chemistry, but I decided that criminology was more in my interest than was forensic science, which is why I ended up here at Marquette and I could not be happier with my decision to transfer. From a young age I was always fascinated by how the human mind works, just in general and in a criminal sense, which is what both my majors have a big focus on. When I tell people I want to work in a prison directly with inmates, I almost always get the same reaction, “that’s different” or just “wow”.…
