Chapter One: Introduction
“Without exception, all of my biggest mistakes occurred because I moved too slowly” declared John Chambers, CEO of Cisco systems (Paley, 2013). A basic fundamental rule in today’s business is the ability to foresee, embrace and adapt to change, as companies are facing significant changes every day; increase of the customer demands, identification of new technologies, strong global and local competition and other political, governmental challenges. Organisations are required to be flexible with their processes, strategies, products and services, and act promptly to market needs. The ability to detect the market opportunities, to overcome the turbulence and unpredictability of the changes is called Agility. The “Organisational Agility ' ' concept has been initially proposed as a strategy to allow manufacturing organisations to sustain their competitive advantages (Zhang and Sharifi, 2000, p 569).

However, few studies discuss the organisational agility in Jordan. For example: one of the studies focused on the role of agility and knowledge sharing on competitive advantage, investigation in manufacturing companies in Jordan (Almahamid, 2008), another example is Bataineh et al., (2015) in which a study of the role of Information Technology capabilities in capitalizing market agility in Jordanian Telecommunications Sector. The real drivers and challenges for organisational agility were not covered in any of the literature I found relating to Jordan or the Middle
