Each quarter we were to complete our independent essays. Each essay had its own requirements and its own subject. Our first essay I wrote about Martin Luther King Jr. This was a paper I wrote about his life, and about the impact that he had on Civil Rights. The second quarter we completed a huge college and career portfolio. This was to narrow down our college and career options. This assignment was good for me because it made me go out in the world and explore a bit. I was able to realize that I do not believe nursing would be a job for me. I have now begun to look into different options so that I can find a career that best fits me. The third quarter I chose to write my independent essay over religion during the Civil War. I will be honest I did not like IXL I thought it took much time out of my week, and it would frustrate me when I didn't do well on it. However, I did go up seven points on the English section of my ACT. I personally feel that IXL is helpful when I complete the objectives and I am then able to understand better. I feel that on top of IXL we should work on more grammar exercises. All the assignments that we complete from our literature book are helpful, but that is not the kind of things we are tests over on the ACT test. Mrs. Madorin every day had us work on ACT prep pages, and it was to get us looking at the types of questions we would be tested over on the ACT. I feel that part of my problem when I take the ACT is that I get there and then I'm not used to the type of questions and I psych myself out. I feel that the more IXL and grammar exercises that we work on, the better our ACT scores will
