The following is a case study analysis of Case 9:15 Academic Fraud. This particular case involves, three individuals, one of which is a graduate student by the name of Sam. Sam is currently in his second year of his master’s program. The second individual mentioned in this case is, Dr. Milton. Dr. Milton is a very thorough and caring mentor at the same university that Sam is attending. The third individual mentioned in this case, serves a pivotal role to say the least and that individual is James. James is Sam’s revered older brother, who happens to be Sam’s strongest supporter in everything he does (Malloy, 2003, pp. 243-244).
Consequently, in this particular case one will find that Sam is a hardworking instructor, but he is also an extremely personable, as well as honorable scholar, who has aspirations of one day becoming a professor, at a university, once he has earned his doctorate degree. Furthermore, the case discloses the fact that, Sam was three chapters into this thesis and was beginning to collect data when he experienced a deep personal tragedy. His brother James announced that he was diagnosed with cancer and did not expect to live past Christmas. One being Sam could have told Dr. Milton about his intentions, or he could have asked for advice on how best to get the work done so that he could meet the convocation deadline. Sam could have asked Dr. Milton to assist him in his efforts or to possibly ask someone else to assist him in his efforts. Lastly, Sam could have actually done the work, which he led Dr. Milton to believe he would do. These are viable options that Sam could have acted upon rather than being deceitful and falsifying
