9/11 Tragedy

After reading the New York Times article “Many Sporting Events Called Off or Postponed” by Frank Litsky and Lena Williams, and the short story “Fear & Loathing in America” by Hunter S. Thompson, I liked better the short story. The New York article give a summary of different sports events that were cancelled or postponed because of the attacks of 9/11. I was surprised that some sport events were postponed for a closer date after a such tragedy. In contrary, I liked the short story which kept my attention. Hunter, the writer made different comparisons that kept my attention. One was between the tragedy of 9/11 and other tragedies faced by the United of States in the past including the number of lives lost within a period of times. According

The horrible disaster of 9/11 was the centre of every conversation long after it occurred. Thompson’s article about 9/11 was a rather prophetic article than a simple reference to the unfortunate incident. Although Thompson usually writes about sports, that time was forced to make a long reference to the 9/11 attacks. It is really remarkable how someone can be so focused on future actions than staying on a disaster and can accurately predict that since that day no one would feel safe “ We are At War now -- with somebody -- and we will stay At War with that mysterious Enemy for the rest of our lives” (Thompson,p.2)…

Because or a terrorist attack and a startled country, people lost faith in their safety in the US, and I don't blame them.…

There are several ways Americans have helped each other during hard times. One of those times were when 9/11 happened. Another time was when Hurricane Katrina occurred. In 9/11, people helped each other by calling firefighters, by trying hard to get everyone out of the buildings. It was a very disastrous time for America, and it was very generous for everyone to help out, and we still thank those people today.…

In my opinion, God gives us life, free will, and a good heart. There is no argument that there is chaos and evil in the world. God tries to guide his people down the path that He wants them to follow, but unfortunately, they do not always listen. Even those who do their best to love others and bring good to the world have tragic things occur in their lives. These tragic events are not caused by God but allowed to happen due to free will.…

For this week’s reading, I liked the short story titled “Fear and Loathing in America” better than the article. This creative non-fiction story by Hunter S. Thompson the day after 9-11 from a sporting news outlet kept my attention based on how the narrative was built figuratively and technically with fine elements describing the dreadful incident. My reason being that the horrific attack at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, was a day that shook the world. Prior to the attack, it was just another beautiful day in America like any other normal day. The tragedy literally affected everyone all over the world because it came suddenly and unexpectedly and as a result which led to the loss of lives of so many people.…

My friend explained to me that after 9/11 her father was attacked because they were from Pakistan people accused him of being a terrorist and connected to the 9/11 attacks, her father made the decision to go against his religion and have her take off her Hijab to avoid being attacked. Hearing this, fear started to build inside of me at the thought of someone being only 12 years old and having to deal with very real issues. As she spoke her voice started to fade away and all the noise in the background disappeared. Furthermore, I started to prepare to defend my friend and our friendship. However, there ended up being nothing to defend and over time my friend drifted most likely out of fear of the unknown I suppose that in a situation like that…

September 11, 2001 is a day that forever left a mark on the American people. On this day, millions of Americans became unified in their grief and their desire to make sense of a senseless tragedy. In order to find solace and understanding, many looked towards the news and other sources. These sources provided the words that many could not form themselves, and these words reflected the thoughts and feelings of not only an individual, but the thoughts and feelings of an entire nation. Leonard Pitts Jr. and Dave Barry were two such sources.…
