James The full moon casted an eerie, pale blue glow on the night-owl Montrealers. James sat on a park bench at the base of Mount Royal, the hill that overlooked the city. Watching, analyzing. He was sifting through the indifferent individuals in search of someone compassionate. Someone vulnerable. James awaited his next victim. He spotted her. She no more than 30 years old, and she appeared as wide-eyed and enthused as newborn baby. Perfect, he thought. This was the one. He jumped up and latched on to her.
“Uh, excuse me Madame, can you help me find my mother?” He peered up and gazed at her with his abnormally large, dark brown eyes. She melted at his innocent plea and agreed at once. James was the spider and the woman was the hopelessly

“It’s okay, mon cher.” She picked up what remained of her phone and put it in her jacket pocket. “What is your name, pumpkin?” He answered. “This is what we're going to do, James,” she cast a final look at the thinning crowd. “I don’t think your mom is here anymore. Do you want to lead me the way you came? Do you know which way is home?” “Oui, Madame. It’s this way.”

He led her up the 400 wooden steps to the top of the enormous hill. Arrived at the top of the hill, James plastered an expression of innocent interest and delight, and ran to the railing overlooking the Montreal cityscape.” Look! Look! Do you see it? Come, come, and see,” he said, mimicking the amusement of a child that found something fascinating.
Grudgingly, the woman walked over and peered over the railing. “I don’t see anything, James. Allons-y, let’s go.”

The woman looked again, searching this time. “James, I don’t see any--” She saw it: a pile of men and women alike, decomposing in the dense bush below. “James… James what is this?
