One humid morning in April as the gray sky threatens to pour down again, two sisters set out together. They have just begun to cross the street when they first see it.
The younger of them points, though the thing has already caught her sister's attention. "Look!"
It is stiff and flattened on the road, ripped open grotesquely for all to see. Ants have started to form scurried lines around it, eager to taste the flesh. A few flies disperse as the girls move closer to the object.
They exchange no words; the image before them conveys all there is to notice. Still, the younger sister stares with wide eyes at the squashed head and bushy tail that once held life.
The older girl notices and decides that her sister has taken too keen an interest in the mundane thing. "Let's go," she orders, tugging her arm impatiently. They have business elsewhere and have no time to linger. It starts to rain again, lightly but enough to snap the younger girl to attention and move her along. They continue on their intended path as the rain grows heavier and the air thickens.

They've seen their fill of it for today and the rain is a formidable nuisance now. They enter their home and close the door to the outside.
The sisters have all but forgotten about what they saw until the rain stops. The older girl remembers she had left her bicycle outside all day and wants to dry it off before rust forms. When she steps out the front door the thing catches her sight again, now lying in a puddle of rainwater and
