It was Thursday, May 6, 1937 a normal day, cold and cloudy in Lake Hurst, New Jersey. Hannah Smith( 14 years old) had a bestfriend named Avery Boyd ( 15 years old). They were out for a walk when they realized it was getting cloudy. They remembered their parents telling them to be home soon because there was a storm on the way so they figured they better head home.

When Hannah and Avery were walking home they saw a group of reporters standing by a tower and thought they would go see what was going on. They walked up to them and realized they were live on News Channel 3. Hannah and Avery thought this might be a once in a lifetime opportunity so they started running back and forth behind the reporters screaming, “Hi mom, hi dad!” The filmer yelled, “commercial,” and the reporters turned around. “What do you think you are doing?” asked the reporters. “Well……… we were curious, we wondered what you guys were doing, and we thought it would be fun to be on tv, so, here we are.” Well you guys shouldn’t have done that, that is a very childish move for mature teenagers,” exclaimed the tv crew and reporters.

Once they reached the front step they heard someone scream from the top of their lungs on the other side of the door and it nearly shook the whole house. Hannah opened the door and the girls rushed inside. Hannah’s mom was looking out the back window to see something go up in flames.
