2009 was a year that everything fell apart but not in a way people typically think things fall apart. It did not fall apart all at once; instead, it was little by little each day leading up to this date. Claire, as a 6th grader, woke up at 7:00 a.m. like she always did and went to school. When 3:00 p.m. rolled around and it was time to go back to the place that she once knew as home, that was when everything was different. Claire is the youngest of three with two older brothers always picking on her.
One of Claire’s brother was in Jr. High and the other in high school, both three sport athletes. Typically, they had sports after school every day of the week besides on Wednesdays. Since Claire was not yet in Jr. High sports did not start for

After Claire’s father stopped going to work and stayed at home her mother seemed to start working even longer hours and it was typical for her not to be home until 5 or 6 o’clock.
Claire opened the door to see her father sitting at the dining room table; which, seems normal besides the fact that static, plain loud static was playing in the background on the radio. “Ugh, dad… what are you doing?” Claire said. Her father replied back, “I am just sitting here thinking.” Claire’s head was spinning, what was happening to her father?
Claire walked back to her room and immediately called her mother who was at work, “mom…” Claire’s mom immediately heard the panic in her daughter’s voice, “Hi Claire, what’s wrong?” “Mom, dad is sitting at the kitchen table listening to static on the radio.” “Claire, I have customers right now and I can’t come home, call Lori and have her come back and pick you

Claire’s two brothers and her mother went out to an event; however, her father stayed at home because he never seemed to really go out any more. As the car pulled in the driveway everything was dark, not one light on in the household.
As we got to the door written in red spray paint on the door was “Conley, go to hell.” Conley, was the name of Claire’s oldest brothers name. As they walked into the dark house they naturally turned on some lights. Julie walked back toward her bedroom to look for Rich, Claire’s father. She stopped once she got to Claire’s room she stopped and saw Rich sleeping in Claire’s bed with a gun. Immediately Claire’s mother gathered up the three kids and they travel to their aunt’s house and Julie called the cops.
Since Claire’s family lived in a small town their family was actually close friends with the cop who went and checked out the scene. Stan, the cop, called back Julie and told her that everything was safe and it was actually just a bee-bee gun that Rich was sleeping with.
