September 11th, 2001 was the day of a drastic terrorist attack in New York City. It remains to be the deadliest attack in the United States, although the death of so many innocent people could have been completely avoided. At exactly 8:46 am, flight 11 struck floors 93-99 of the north tower. At 9:03 am, the south tower was struck by flight 175. More people were injured than perished in the end of this devastating event. Many people feel as if both of the World Trade Center buildings were built to their best ability. Others see this tragedy as the building structure being at fault for the death of numerous innocent lives. When installing spray foam to the World Trade Center, the installer could potentially have the inability to see certain areas. On October 1st, 2002, Roger G. Morse, a licensed architect from New York, said “The installer may be unable to reach or see certain areas of the trusses that must be covered. This frequently results in thin or absent fireproofing on surfaces hidden from the floor by the bottom of steel members” (Morse). Morse said that the fireproofing was poorly applied which resulted in the growth of the fire from the jet-line. Therefore, people in the tower were badly burned. Morse also insinuated “This defect was never corrected and still existed in June 2000 and probably at the time of the plane crashes. It is possible the fireproofing was missing from sections of columns on the impact floors or that some or all of the loosely adhered fireproofing fell off with the force of the impacts”(Morse). What Morse is saying here is that the building utilized fireproofing spray foam poorly before the 9/11 incident, and it potentially worsened as the force of the planes entered each
