9/11 reflection
The memory of 9/11 is kind of fuzzy but I remember I was 2 years old and my
Sister and I had a doctors appointment in Manhattan that day. It was a normal day until the
Tragedy took place. I remember we were driving and my mom says in urdu “ that airplane looks
Like its flying to low” and my dad brushes it off and says “you're just imagining things”.
The doctors office was surprisingly close to the twin towers. We finally reach

rushed home and put on the tv. My 2 year old self was confused as to what was going on.
I asked what's going on and if I can turn on Teletubbies. My dad sucked into the tv, doesn't
respond and my mom tells me that four planes have crashed into both towers. My two year
old self tried to comprehend whatever I could.
America was petrified, and I remember seeing on the news the number of
deaths increasing after every minute 100 to 1000 and so on; people jumping out of windows
trying to do what it takes to survive, it breaks my heart that someone was trying to hold onto
life but failed. The aftermath was more scary, because of the shock America had gone. People
became terrorized to the point some started attacking innocent people because of their
ethnicity. I remember one of my friends dad was attacked because he was wearing a turban, a
traditional Sikh headpiece. Most Muslims and south asian backgrounds had to live in the fear of
getting sliced by a knife. As I got older I recall the times when women with the hijab another
religious head scarf would get cussed at or told to go back to their country. It was a
