9/11 In America

Improved Essays
There are several ways Americans have helped each other during hard times. One of those times were when 9/11 happened. Another time was when Hurricane Katrina occurred. In 9/11, people helped each other by calling firefighters, by trying hard to get everyone out of the buildings. Until I helped clean up areas affected by Hurricane Harvey, I had never seen miles of power lines snapped in half and mountains of rubble that were once gasoline stations. In Victoria and Gregory, Texas, my church’s “Mormon Helping Hands” program volunteered to assist any families that could not help themselves. We tore down entire walls and cleared fallen trees so that homeowners could save money on reconstruction cost to rise from rock bottom. Grown men cried because they were grateful for our help and for their greatly reduced financial burden. Initially, I was annoyed that my parents made me do physical labor.…

Humans are intriguing. In the wake of the most horrific mass murder and largest terrorist attack to ever find its way to a country’s shores a person will do almost anything to help those suffering; millions offered their money, time, and in some cases even their lives to save the victims of the attacks. Otherwise a group of people can unify under a common flag to provide aid to the afflicted; thousands of individuals donated an unprecedented amount of blood after the 9/11 attacks; however the flag in this case was not American, nor was it peaceful or even remotely helpful, this flag was Iraqi. In his essay “Some People Push Back: On the Justice of Roosting Chickens” Ward Churchill claims that it is a natural; and in this case restrained; occurrence…

For both the Lusitania disaster and 9/11 attacks, the historic phase came immediately. Immediately after reports of the 9/11 attacks first responders raced to save as many people as possible from the towers and the pentagon. Heroic passengers on flight 93, unfortunately unable to save themselves risked their lives and subdued hijackers deterring the plane from crashing into another occupied landmark.…

In a world where CEOs of corporations get paid 20 times larger annual compensations, taxes are ever increasing, and the people demand what they want when they want, it is hardly a utopian society. The wealthy are indeed continuing to live a "privileged" lifestyle. The poorer citizens are not oppressed by the government, but by the situation that the government refuses to remedy. Thomas Paine wrote in his book, The Rights of Man, his beliefs that the United States could be an orderly society; taxes could be few and the government would be fair to its citizens. However, his belief has not held up in recent years.…

The country as a whole came together to mourn the loss of the individuals who were killed in this attack and stepped up our national security to be ready to fight.
