Speaking from a personal perspective, being plagued with the wrong identity labels could lead me to commit acts of evil. Both the SPE and group identity formed in terrorism shows the effects of how having certain associations could mislead me to commit acts I would not have committed otherwise. Because of possible horrors that could result from flawed personal identification, it is essential that I remain conscious of what my identifications are. Furthermore, it is crucial that my beliefs consistently align with my actions. As Marsella said, “Belief provides meaning and purpose—it reduces uncertainty and facilitates adaptation and adjustment” (Marsella 2004, 41). By beliefs, I am do not refer to a man-made religion, but rather a spirituality …show more content…
Furthermore, to promote positive identities I want to encourage those around me to also act in goodness. Oskar Schindler, during the Holocaust, arranged to have many Jewish men work in his factory and he ultimately saved their lives. Throughout the film, his workers consistently tell him “you are good, you are good” (Spielberg and Zaillian 1993). Schindler realizes, perhaps through consistently being identified by others a ‘good,’ that he wanted to save as many lives as he could. The positive labeling enables him to eventually save many Jewish lives. In the same way, I want to remain conscious of when others act in kindness so I can tell them, which in turn will encourage them to identify themselves as good. Furthermore, I want my identities to positively reflect my beliefs and values. During a CLP Dr. Malici spoke about the importance of our identities he said, “You all are too beautiful to be limited to one or two identities,” and as I grow older I hope his words can resonate with me in the way I don’t want to be just a Democrat, or a Psychologist, or a mother, or a

Rhetorical Analysis of “The Hurting Heroes of 9/11 ” In the article “The Hurting Heroes of 9/11” (Sept. 16, 2016), Leah McGrath Goodman claims that those who helped with the rescue of the 9/11 attacks continue to die even 15 years after the attacks happened. Goodman supports the claim by using statistics and actual people who helped with the rescue of 9/11 who have some health issues that they are suffering over the last 15 years. Goodman has written this article in order to inform readers of the devastating numbers of people that have passed away since this event happened 15 years ago which helps to establishe a personable relationship with Newsweek Global readers who remember watching or rescuing those who had fallen in these attacks and reminds us that this day will forever haunt our nation. Goodman emphasizes the importance and the value that life has through her choices of diction, rhetorical choices, and the structure of her article.…

I found an article on September 11, 2001 attacks that I believe demonstrates poor reasoning. The article is dated October 2001, and is from the New York magazine. Therefore, the author obviously was still affected by the events of that fateful day. The attacks that happened on September 11, 2001 affected everyone's reasoning, however it is obvious when you are an author for a magazine right out of the state itself. He based his entire article on the assumption that those in the Senate thwarted the efforts to give financial aid to those affected on purpose.…

The incident that occurred on September 11, 2001 has proposed many theories and ideas to what exactly happened. The video we watched introduced many different theories of the people who studied the event in depth and of some people who actually endured and experienced the event first hand. The ethos in the video are the theories and credibility given to them produced by the Italian directors or the people who studied the attack and what they think actually caused certain things that occurred during the attack. The logos in the video are the facts or reasoning in reference to what actually happened and what can be proven instead of assumed or thought to have happened. The pathos given in the video are those feelings and emotions the directors and producers want or strive you to feel during or after watching the video and while seeing their theories as to why it happened it happened or why it did not happen.…

I have learned a lot through the assignments. I thought it was a weird how the author started the book with 9-11-01. With a very touchy subject to all of us. I think sometimes, I would get really into the book, that I would let my emotions get involved. I did, however, recommend the book to several of my co-workers, so they could understand why I would get the way I got.…

You know how people say they can remember exactly what they were doing the day 9/11 happened? It was such a huge event in their lives they remember every last detail, just like it happened yesterday.
