On September 11th two hijacked planes hit the World Trade Center in New York City killed about 2,752 people. The other plane crashed into the Pentagon and killed 189 people. This was said to be the largest attack on U.S. since Pearl Harbor. There were about 19 hijackers and it was said that they were from Saudi Arabia and were members of Al-Queda, which was led by Osama Bin Laden. This tragic event brought a lot of attention across America. People all over the country have different opinions of what actually happened. Some think that the government is lying to us about what happened and promotes different conspiracies about the event.

As the Towers collapsed, the other parts of the American soul revealed themselves. From the first responders risking their lives doing their jobs to the ordinary citizens who gave their lives for strangers, they became our brothers' and sisters' keepers. Jim Wallis, a Christian writer and political activist, wrote in the Huffington Post that “in Washington, people fled from downtown D.C., walking and running right past our house, and gathered to pray at places such as Sojourners' office. Joy, his wife, helped Luke, his son, set up a little water station, as people frantically rushed by our house.” this shows that America does have a good side and care for one another despite all the tragedy that the Americans put each other through. Wallis also states “In our sudden sense of vulnerability we were now and perhaps for the first time, like most of the world, where vulnerability is an accepted part of being human. And in those first days following 9/11, America, not the terrorists, had the high ground. The world did not identify with those who cruelly and murderously decided to take innocent lives in response to their grievances, both real and imagined. Instead, the world identified with a suffering America, even the front cover of the French newspaper Le Monde ran the headline, "We are all Americans now." This quote summarizes everything that America has to offer. Showing the innocents and open hearted we really are despite all the assumption made towards the government, Muslims, and the everyday citizens, we can still come together to be there for one
