My dad told me that President Bush was reading stories to elementary school children in Florida while the United States was under attack by terrorists. On this day nineteen members of Al-Qaeda hijacked four planes and crashed them into important buildings in America. Two planes hit the World Trade Centers, and a third hit the Pentagon. The fourth plane, Flight 93, hit a field in Pennsylvania ("9/11 attacks" ). Flight 93, once the hijackers got into the cockpit, was headed towards the Capitol in Washington, DC. The hijackers wanted to kill or injure several thousand additional Americans. The passengers on the plane attacked the hijackers, and crashed the plane into the ground (Flight 93”). The passengers of Flight 93 were heroes for their bravery, intelligence, and altruism.…

One hundred two minutes after being struck by Flight 11, the World Trade Center’s North Tower falls straight to the ground, going floor by floor, at 10:28 am. Lower Manhattan is covered in ash, smoke, paper, and even body parts. At 11:00 am, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani enforces an evacuation on Lower Manhattan. After burning for hours, the Seven World Trade Centers collapses at 5:20 pm. For the rest of the day and much longer after that, people continue to search for their loved ones among the ruble. Firemen work hard to repair the damage and try to find and save anyone that could be lost among the ashes. Finally, at 8:30 pm President George W. Bush addressed the nation. He called the attacks “evil, despicable acts of terror,” and reassured everyone by declaring that America, its allies, and its friends would “stand together to win the war against terrorism,” (9/11: Timeline of Events, N.P.). Osama Bin Laden may have felt like he had won that day, but what he did not realize, is that he helped America grow…

I coughed as the grime and dust filled my lungs. I can’t remember the last time I went into this decrepit attic. Whatever, none of that matters now, I just have to clear out the boxes before I go to Columbia University. As I started lifting the boxes dust flew everywhere, clogging my lungs. I found my arms shaking and my knees wobbling. I felt the boxes slip out of my hands and clatter to the floor. Quickly, I reached for my inhaler. My Asthma acting up again? Dr. Jacobs said I got over it I thought to myself as I breathed in the fluid expelling from the inhaler. After taking a few deep breathes I went to pick up the boxes I had dropped when I saw something that caught my eye. A newspaper had fallen out of one of the boxes, It had WELLS FARGO BANK ROBBERY draped across the front page. Curious as I was I decided to investigate the paper. As I read the paper I came across a name that would be engrained in my head for…

More people were injured than perished in the end of this devastating event. Many people feel as if both of the World Trade Center buildings were built to their best ability. Others see this tragedy as the building structure being at fault for the death of numerous innocent lives. The poor and effortless application of fireproofing, lack of durable evacuation staircases, and the use of more steel as…
