Orik is Eragon`s Dwarven foster brother who is running to be elected as the Dwarven king. He is loyal in any situation and can make beautiful, effective weapons. Though he is short, he fights with ferocity just short of that of a dragon. Roran is a warrior who is able to triumph over incredibly powerful enemies though he lacks any type of magic. He is Eragon`s cousin and cares deeply for his family. He managed, twice, to travel half a continent to save his beloved Katrina. Roran is a tactical genius and has won many battles for the Varden, an organization that wants to bring down the Dark King Galbatorix. Galbatorix is the villain of the story. Cruel, cunning, and powerful, Galbatorix will stop at nothing to capture Eragon and bend him to his will. He stays in the shadows throughout the story and does little but send his armies to attack the Varden. He is always thwarted by Eragon but gets closer to victory over the Varden each time. Murtagh is Eragon’s half-brother who was forced to swear oaths of fealty to Galbatorix, in the language of magic. He is a proud warrior who rides the dragon, Thorn. Antigone, the daughter of Oedipus, is the play’s tragic heroine who fights against the evil Creon, the current King of Thebes. Her rebellion against the king was ignited by her thirst for justice, stopping at nearly nothing to combat the immoralities standing in her way. In her heart, the sacredness of family and honor is the pinnacle aspect of her life. “No Great Mischief” by Alistair Macleod is a novel that is told from the first person point of view through Alexander, our protagonist, and uses flashbacks and memories to help the reader understand the family history and dynamic better. The theme of this story is of nostalgia and the importance of family. The history of the family traces back many generations and holds a lot of meaning to each and every one of the family members, also know as clan members. For this essay, my focus is on comparing Calum and Alexander, their differences, their similarities and their masculinity. While reading this book you also have to take note that since this is coming from Alexander's point of view, and this is how he views his brother.…

The readings I’m going to use to compare values are Antigone, Aeneid, and Beowulf. Each of these stories have very strong leading characters, which whom poses values, such as, duty, courage, and compassion. Each story has someone who represents a hero; Antigone, Aeneid, and Beowulf are all considered hero’s in their own respective stories. Antigone is considered to be the most well rounded story when it comes to containing all four values discussed at the beginning of this paper. Antigone has roles as a sibling and a leader.…

“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely” said historian Lord Acton. In Sophocles’ Antigone, Oedipus the King of Thebes has newly departed after disgracing his people, and his successors to the throne Polynices and Eteocles have died in battle, leaving his brother Creon to inherit his throne. From the beginning, Creon uses his newfound power to impose excessive punishments against not only the innocent people of Thebes, but also his family. As a result, the people of Thebes recognize this abuse of power and express their fears through not only the chorus but also his son, whom he both chooses to disregard. Finally, Creon not only abuses the people of Thebes with his power, but also uses it to offend the Gods by intentionally breaking their divine laws.…
