The idea came to my mind that I should try out for drum major. It made sense; they put in the most amount of hours, have to give the activity 100% effort at all times, and they represent all 203 people in our marching band. I decided I would take the opportunity; with the last chance I took, I was still on cloud nine. On the last day of school they put five names up on the band bulletin board. It felt like my heart stopped beating when I looked at the list; my eyes quickly scanned it. In all caps was (AMBER GREANEY). My name was up there! I was so thankful the directors were giving my sophomore self a shot at leadership; an underclassmen being a drum major was unheard of. I’ve spent the past two years giving the Avon Marching Band my heart and soul. It’s taught me so many lessons I can use in my everyday life. How to be punctual, dedicated, respectful, passionate, but most importantly it’s give me the heart of a champion. That’s not something that every sport or activity can simply teach you, you must earn it. By putting thousands of hours in and pushing past limits you didn’t believe possible. Through the ups and downs, the hurry up and wait, and the mighty Avon
