On this day, I had to compete for a spot on the basketball team against 30 to 40 other players. Just let me tell you, hardwork and dedication does pay off.

When I arrived at my enormous new high school for cheerleading auditions, I got lost. It was June, and since classes had just ended, crowds of kids filled the hallways, and I got bumped around like I did not exist. Thankfully, a cheerleader saw me and figured that I had come there for tryouts since I wore shorts, cheer shoes and a big bow in my hair. She took me to the gym where at least sixty girls had shown up to compete. The first thing I saw was cheerleaders doing high level tumbling with no fear.…

Cheerleading Tryouts “Come on Lauren you’ve been doing this way too long, you’ve been on the team every year since you were 14.” I said to myself as I walk through the halls of my High School. Today is May 24, the first day of the annual cheerleading try outs and for some reason I’m extremely nervous even though I’m a three year veteran. I go through my classes talking to all my other cheer friends saying how this is going to be a breeze and how we can’t wait to start the season even though my stomach is literally overwhelmed with butterflies. DING DING DING!!!…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

Going to State for cross country is one of my favorite things that I have done in my athletic high school career. It took hard work to get there and when we finally did that it was eventful and fun and was one of the best trips that I have ever had. It started out way back in June when a group of girls got together and went for a run. At that time we only ran about 3-4 miles or so, but by the middle of the cross country season we were running up to 6 miles everyday. We trained all throughout the summer increasing our mileage every week so that by the beginning of the season were were ready to race.…

This is a test from my pre-calculus class. This is a test on trigonometry where we were able to work with a partner to find the answers. This was helpful because I was able to work with someone that I usually do not. This helped me learn how to work with someone that I do not know that well to solve a problem. I will need to work with people I do not know that well while in college, and in my future career, so it is good to be able to start now and get used to it.…
