This research is focused on whether or not gaming affects how 8th grade students do their schoolwork, and if that leads to stress or sleep problems. In order to collect this data, we put out an anonymous survey. Attempting to achieve a wide result, we targeted the eighth grade students of MS67. The research we do can help provide insight on whether gaming affect student’s work and grades. We have not been able to reach a conclusion, due to our lack of responders. However, we saw a few small patterns.
Nowadays, video games are a very debatable topic, due to it’s stereotypical gore and violence. Some people criticize gaming, for its appearance, saying gaming is sexist, and is a negative influence on children. Others defend video games, saying that it can help people relieve stress and become critical thinkers. We chose this topic because both of us enjoy gaming, but not to the extent that we will fail for it. Moreover, video games can be a way to channel stress in a harmless, more enjoyable manner.
