Nowadays, video games are a very debatable topic, due to it’s stereotypical gore and violence. Some people criticize gaming, for its appearance, saying gaming is sexist, and is a negative influence on children. Others defend video games, saying that it can help people relieve stress and become critical thinkers. We chose this topic because both of us enjoy gaming, but not to the extent that we will fail for it. Our goal was to see if video games actually had an effect on people’s schoolwork and stress levels. In order to collect data, we went to 8th grade students in MS 67 and asked them to fill out a survey for us. Gaming can help students handle the stress of school and deal with depression. Gaming also helps students become less aggressive during stressful times. Moreover, video games can be a way to channel stress in a harmless, more enjoyable manner. Furthermore, according to truestressmanagement.com, “Video games help manage stress because it gives you a break from your real life.” This explains why some people play somewhat violent video games to relieve stress and escape from their own struggles. Specifically, games like Call of Duty, or Battlefield 1 can be common because of its run and gun structure, without much thought needed to put into it, and because of the feel of shooting your stress in the
