Grades- I previously attended Prairie View Middle School from 6th grade up until 8th grade. I think that Prairie View was a good school for me, For the most part I was able to get good grades (about 3.0 or higher) and make a lot of friends. Relationships with my teachers though where a whole other story. 6th grade was when I was able to achieve the best grades. The highest G.P.A. i’ve ever got was a 3.8, and I achieved that in 6th grade. I also got 3.0s and 3.5s that year too. I also got good grades in 7th grade too, getting 3.0s every quarter. This year was the most difficult, I was only able to get two 3.0s. Things I Learned This Year- I think that Science was the most interesting class I had this year, in this class we

From what I remember about my life as a youth, in terms of socialization, was an exposure to both concerted cultivation and the accomplishment of self-growth as explained by Annette Lareaus study of Unequal Childhoods: class, Race, and Family Life. The reason I feel I was exposed to both is because I feel my mom attempted to give my brother and I a concerted cultivation life of structure, schedule, and activities but there were road blocks that didn’t allow her to implement this teaching in prime years of my development. Lareaus talked about the big effect that a parent’s education level plays on the child’s life. Growing up I only had a mother and although she didn’t make it past her sophomore year of high school she later enlisted in the…

20 Years Ago El Paso High School in El Paso, Texas 8:30 a.m. It was an unusually chilly and foggy day for September in Texas. Millie got out of her white Aleko and grabbed her yellow knit sweater that was draped across the passenger seat. She was reaching for her backpack, which was in the back seat of her car, when the first bell rang. Millie raced across the parking lot, up the concrete steps, and pulled the heavy door to the rustic brick building open.…

There are various reasons as to why I’m deserving of the Etna-Dixmont School Scholarship. The most prevalent reason is my family history and connection with the town of Dixmont. My father and my grandparents moved to from Massachusetts to Dixmont, Maine when he was in second grade. My grandfather bought a house on Route 9 in Dixmont, and some other land in addition to that. The Dixmont Corner Church was built in 1835, and had an active one room school house next to it that was built in 1808.…

Middle Grades are probably the most difficult grades to get through for everyone. During this time of physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and moral development for these students learning about the history of Georgia is literally the last thing they think about, if they even really think about it at all. These students are some of the most difficult students to keep their attention focused on the subject matter at hand, unless of course we are discussing them, then and only then will the teacher get their full attention. During the observation assignment I noticed a few of the developmental theories that correlated with the five developmental stages of middle school students: Bronfenbrenner, Erikson, and Hall.…

Because of the upcoming science STTAR, my observation of Ms. de la Fuente’s fifth grade class this week was a little different than usual. The teachers switched classes from lunch until one thirty to better prepare the students for the test. In this way, they would learn the information through different teaching styles. This week’s task was about advice on the teaching profession. Some good advice was to stay organized and keep the students engaged.…

My observation of Ms. de la Fuente’s 5th grade class this week started after lunch during their math time. On Wednesday, their schedule had been different from normal and there was two other teachers in the classroom teaching them about different types of rocks. On Thursday, a sixth grade math teacher came to the classroom to further explain what they had been learning about conversions, and to tell them about what they would learn next year when they went to sixth grade.. During arrival in the morning and dismissal in the afternoon, the same routine is followed on almost all days. In the morning, the students go wait in the gym and are picked up by the teacher when the first bell rings.…

I have loved every moment spent at my site these past 8 weeks and look forward to the weeks ahead. I am observing at the first Pre-K in the district that I graduated from. The school and classroom is very welcoming, I have enjoyed getting to know all 16 of the children, seeing their shyness slip away and their personalities come out. Being able to be apart of the children’s day once a week has taught me so much about how a public school is ran and especially the Pre-K. The teacher and Ed tech have shared so much insightful information with me about classrooms and working with 4 and 5 year olds.…

This year the sixth grade students boarded the plane to Middle School. For the first time, the sixth grade students had to be able to do many things that they were not used to doing in fifth grade back in Elementary School. Some of those things include being able to open a combination lock, being able to get to classes on time with a four minute passing period, and they had to manage nine different classes throughout the entire school day. Also, the sixth graders did some really exciting things this year such as mummifying a chicken in Social Studies. Throughout the school year the school held a couple pf parties for just the sixth grade students to enjoy.…

Up until high school, I have never experienced science as I did in a high school environment, specifically in DRS, where I fell in love with chemistry in 10th grade. It was so interesting to look at the different ways our environment, even ourselves, at a cellular level interact with one another. This love for the science influenced me to take upon myself the challenge of AP Chemistry. So far I have further developed and honed my skills. I have further ingrained in myself the idea to question everything.…

The scientific method is a procedure that is used by scientists now and in the past, dating back to the seventeenth century. The scientific method consists of observation, measurement, and experiment, and the creation and testing of hypotheses. There are several steps and different components to the scientific method that will (hopefully) answer the scientists’ questions, by the completion of the experiment. There are countless different reasons as to why a scientist would use the scientific method, but one area of research that is focused on is, biology. Biologists seek to find the answers to further and better understand the processes that occur in living systems.…
