Monday Write: Eighth Grade Expectations/Goals
I have many expectations for my eighth grade year at WCI. I expect eighth grade to be challenging, fun, and ultimately gratifying when I graduate from middle school to high school. Some of my goals include sharpening my writing skills so I’ll be ready for the next four years of my schooling, doing well overall in school, (getting as many A’s as possible), and, having a great year with my friends.

Overall, throughout this year in 2017 of 9th grade English I’ve undeniably enhanced my personal writing. Some of the reasons I’ve achieved this specific goal are consistently working on Achieve3000, meeting at my expectations for typing essays and reports, and also gaining knowledge from commentary of my assignments in class. Secondly, I’ve learned that my expectations for a solid essay were required to first obtain a fine thesis statement, secondly a claim that’s comparative, thirdly citing evidence that supports my claim, fourthly explain the evidence and lastly have a great conclusion.…

Throughout the year, we have been working on 3 literacy capabilities to work on. The three capabilities I chose to hopefully improve on were reading, spelling and vocabulary. I chose these skills due to my NAPLAN results and what I personally think would help me with my writing. By focusing and working on these three skills through different strategies such as completing worksheets, different exercises and using the internet, I aim to improve my writing, English and hopefully apply this information to other subjects. Spelling was the main literacy capability I wanted to work on for the year.…

Going from eighth grade to ninth is a frightening idea to any uprising freshman. For me, I was more than pleased to embark on this new journey called high school. What I wasn't prepared for was the completely different grading scale, joining extra curricula, and becoming accustomed to this new found freedom. I made a wise decision to focus only on my grades instead of trying to join clubs, organizations, and sports. The irony in this is that all our advisers and assistant principles were telling me the exact opposite.…

Like I previously stated I learned how to do many things with my writing this semester. The first essay we wrote, a narrative, was probably my favorite essay to write. Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
