As immigration laws become stricter in America, 84 lumber decided to make a very controversial ad for the super bowl 51. There were all sorts of reactions on the table when it came to this now very famous ad about a mother and daughter moving from Mexico to America on foot. Some believed this commercial opened their eyes and now believe that immigration should be looked at in different light while some didn’t move on their stance on the immigration laws and were appalled with this ad from the family owned business. Maggie Hardy Magerko the owner and CEO of 84 lumber tells people magazine “she supports Trump and believes his border wall “is a need,” but she clarified to The Post that “if the President wants to build a wall, then we want to make …show more content…
In today’s society white privilege is a huge issue. In the ad 84 lumber shows white construction workers with ice cold bottled water while the mother had to ask a man that was on his own travels for a drink of his unfiltered hot water for her daughter. This just shows the sad truth behind white privileged Americans. The second most logical argument within this ad was the quote at the end which says “The will to succeed is always welcomed here.” This quote states if the immigrates are willing to follow the procedure to come into America legally then they’re always welcome. The third logical argument goes against Trump saying that all immigrants are illegal and drug dealers and murders. This video contained a mother and her daughter traveling to the United States by foot for a better future. They didn’t have drugs and did not appear to be murders. This young woman and her daughter left their small cottage in Mexico to better their futures. The road they traveled was treacherous and lonely most of the time. They used most of the money they had to their name to come to America. The mother and daughter stayed optimistic the whole time until they hit the wall. The mothers face was heartbreaking. The defeat in her face changed when her daughter gave her the American flag she made out of things she picked up on the way. This little girl was already patriotic towards a country that didn’t even want her. When they came across the door it amazed them. This commercial angered many but this ad also broke many hearts. To turn away a single mother and a child that has traveled the worst roads to become an American shows the will they have to be an American and this is what 84 lumber wanted the audience to see. 84 Lumber could have made this commercial not as controversial but if they did that then nobody would have paid attention to it. They had to make a strong point to get people to talk and see their side of the argument. The pathos, logos, and ethos 84 lumber used was very well directed in the commercial. By 84 lumber not taking down the ad makes it even a stronger argument because they continually stand with immigrants that are willing to work for their

    In this year’s Super Bowl, Budweiser ran an advertisement that called “Stand By Me,” which details the process and shipment of water to places in the United States were natural disasters have taken place recently, namely Florida, Texas, Puerto Rico, and California. Throughout the 60 second spot, we see the process and the work of the factories employees particularly the manager of the plant, Kevin Fahrenkrog, put into transferring the normal beer distributor into a water distributor. This advertisement breaks a mold set by Budweiser throughout other advertisements they have routinely run in the past, and is even distinctly different than other advertisements they ran during this year’s Super Bowl. In an attempt to pull on the heart strings of the viewer, Budweiser hopes to win people over to their beer due to their charitable deeds of donating water to those impacted by recent natural disasters.
