1990s Fashion
The 1990s were a decade when people developed their own style by mixing top names with mass brands and low fashion with high in fashion. (Frankel). Fashion in 1970’s included bright colors, polyester material, and flared pants which many people wore in different ways. In the 1980’s had lots of brown and tan color clothes, but had bright colored sunglasses and accessories. The 1990s included many different types of fashion trends which influenced many different things and many different styles.
In the 1990s, the internet became of age and that changed things forever. After the internet became popular more businesses and homes started to use internet all the time. In 1991 “World Wide Web” (WWW) debuts and technology boomed after that; all of this sped the flow of information. A few years later Snoop Dogg made an appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1994. Bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam influenced grunge style fashion the most but were not the only bands that influenced grunge. The clothing style included crumpled, ripped and torn clothes, men would wear T-shirts with flannels around their waists with baggy pants and popular Doc Martens. Many girls wore tattoos chokers and chunky boots. The fashion trends also included hip-hop, which had some similarities to grunge. Many rappers wore baggy pants and wore them low so you could see their boxers, they also wore Tommy Hilfiger, Polo Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Nautica. Another popular style in the 90s was getting tattoos and piercings and then showing them off. Tattoos started becoming more socially acceptable because of 1990s rock stars and actors. High profile celebrities started wearing clothes to show off their tattoos which created a market for upscale tattoo studios.
