7th Grade Math Homework

Improved Essays
Finally, it was over. I have finished my 7th grade math homework. I have spent hours trying to finish those stupid problems. But now I’m finished and I can just sit in front of the TV and do nothing. Then I see my script for my play for this year and I let out a sigh of disappointment. I didn’t get the part I wanted this year, in fact, it doesn’t seem like anyone did, except for Alice. But I realize it doesn't really matter and I make my way towards the stairs. When I get to the living room, I immediately sink down into the soft, leather couch and look around for the TV remote. But before I can turn the TV on, I overhear my parents in their bedroom. So I stand up as slowly and quietly as possible, and slide across the floor towards the doorway. They’re talking about my school's play this year and my part. It was very interesting so I turned around, ready to leave, when I heard my mom say, “Did I tell you how Alice got the lead?” …show more content…
“What does that mean?” I thought. “No. I thought she just tried out like everybody else.” my dad said. “Her parents offered to pay for new costumes and a new set so Alice would get the lead role. I can’t believe that the teachers let that happen.” I just stood beside the empty doorway for a moment completely ignoring everything my mom was saying and trying to process what she had just said. When slowly the confusion turned to anger. I was angry, not because I wanted the part, but because she made it unfair for everyone else. Because of her parents and the schools greed, other people couldn’t get the part they wanted. It was bad enough that Alice’s parents were willing to pay the way for their daughter, rather than her trying, but my teachers took the offer. This means that I can’t trust my teachers in the same way every again. As I’m starting to deal with these emotions, I hear my mom say one last thing, “I think I’m going to go talk to Morgann. I want her to

Amanda Perring carefully stepped off the bright yellow school bus onto the clean, asphalt driveway leading to her parent’s garage. Her house was a classic, one story suburb on the outskirts of Los Angeles, located in middle class neighborhood where no one had to worry about money but there wasn't much extra to spend. Her mother and father were both respected doctors and were almost never home when Amanda was. Every day on the bus, she would sit at the very back with no one else, completely silent the entire way home, most often reading a book. When she had first moved to her new school a few years ago, Amanda had been the easiest kid to pick on with her high grades and care about school.…

During my sophomore year, I heard about elections for the president of National Math Honor Society, or NMHS. I was excited as I saw this as the opportunity I had to instill a love of math for my fellow high school peers. Since I had been at the top of my math classes during high school, I anticipated an easy triumph for me, so I imprudently stood idle while my opponents campaigned. Unfortunately, after the voting by my fellow students, I learned I had lost to a junior. I shrank down in my seat and tears formed in my eye, showing my humiliation.…

Failing at something you’re passionate about can be devastating. This happened to me my senior year of high school. I had just moved back to my hometown that summer, and after one year at a school where I knew no one and another year homeschooled, I was ready to get back to a familiar place. I was looking forward to one high school activity in particular: marching band. I had practiced some throughout the summer, assuming that a year off from band wouldn’t make an outstanding difference in my performance.…
