Sacramental character, or the indelible ontological mark rendered by the Holy Spirit on the soul of the ordained empowering them to act in the person of Jesus on behalf of the Church (AVP), is not a universally recognized Christian concept. As the Christian church began to shift from a communal entity where the whole community was expected to participate in worship and ministry by making use of their God-given charisms, to a hierarchical institution where ministry and leadership was tied exclusively to the roles of bishops and priests, the Church would need to theologically justify how and why the sacramental roles, that had been communal events, were now under the purview of the clerical order. By making use of the notion of sacramental…

Judaism vs. Islam In this essay I will review my understanding of the major beliefs and practices of two of the great Abrahamic religions, Judaism and Islam. I will attempt to take the position of proponents of each religion, and delineate areas of agreement and disagreement. What makes this comparison so compelling, and relevant, is the great human suffering that has resulted, and continues to result, from those who cloak their aggression and hatred under the veil of each religion. Judaism is quite liberal on the issue of the exact nature of God.…

Popular Catholicism in the early colonial period was striving and beginning to emerge. It is through religion and religious beliefs that culture that members of social groups attempt to make sense of the world. According to Sanabria, “In many ways, Latin American and Caribbean peoples who came under the sway of the Spanish and Portuguese have been largely catholic since the early colonial period”(Sanabria, p. 182). A reason that explains the emergence of this is due to religious persecution through the campaigns against idolatry. European secular and religious colonizers engaged in widespread campaigns against what they considered idols and sacred worship places.…

Judaism, like other religions, is not uniform, and has great variety, spanning from the most Orthodox to Jews who have no belief in God. The following essay will discuss the origins of Modern Orthodoxy and Reform Judaism, as well as their different philosophies and approaches to the Torah and the Talmud.
