6-Week Health Program: A Case Study

The peer involved in the 6-week health program is Ashlee Sargent, aged twenty. An interview was conducted to identify the health behaviour that she wishes to change in the program. From the interview, relevant information was collected. The client is currently working as a receptionist in a physiotherapy clinic. She works on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. She has a gym membership and currently exercises for three times a week. She exercises for an hour and mostly runs on a treadmill. The speed at which she usually runs and walks are 10.5kph and 6kph respectively. She drives to the gymnasium which is five minutes away from her home. She also has an outdoor track near her housing area but prefers running on a treadmill. Ashlee has no past medical history and is deemed fit to perform physical activities.
From the interview, it was understood that Ashlee’s aims are to improve her cardiorespiratory endurance and to run for 5km without walking rests after six weeks. Reasons for her aims are that although she has been consistently running on a treadmill, she has never succeeded in completing the run without walking rests. Also, no program was tailored

Firstly, it was understood that Ashlee has been running on the treadmill consistently for the past few months and is not new to running. She also exercises weekly and is physically active. Additionally, the PAR-Q screening results proved that she has no heart conditions. Her injuries however, may be a restriction for her as she follows the program. This is because Ashlee once injured her knee from overtraining. She needed two days of complete rest before she could resume her exercise regime. Although she claimed that the injury was not severe, it must be taken seriously as a recurrent knee injury might occur. Also, there may be slight differences in the values of heart rate recorded by the treadmill and her Fitbit
