The first technique, is the mental crowd simulator. It consists of putting yourself into a situation where you actually imagine yourself being in a crowded closed room, and that you are actually giving your speech. Have you ever been daydreaming while your favorite song was playing and that you were actually imagining yourself singing that song in front of a crowd? Well, this technique works the same way, where you have already memorized your speech, and you imagine yourself giving that speech to a large audience. The benefit of the technique lies in the fact that, you’ll already feel the real pressure of being watched by hundreds of people. You overall, feel the same stress, the same uncertainty and nervousness. This is a good way to prepare yourself mentally for your speech, because you’ll be able to see what’s more stressful to you when it comes to giving

The informative speech I gave on Wednesday about “GM Foods” did not go better than I expected that I could have done because I felt time pressure to organize a verbal outline as closer to written outline. On the topic “GM Foods”, my rhetoric was mainly to inform audiences about negative impact of GM foods on human health. The most difficult part of this informative speech for me is the topic selection. Going through the struggle of finding the topic of large public/audiences interest which can lead to audience inclusion and positive public discourse, I finally found the topic of public concerns/interest but doing research on the topic found all controversial proposition and opposition to the arguments of positive and negative impacts of GM…

In between all the sessions and activities there never seemed to be a time to sit down and formulate a well thought out speech. In running for a city government, for example, we were so busy discussing out city’s issues that as soon as the discussion was over it was time for the candidates to give their speeches. Even though the amount of time was very limited, it was a very enriching experience because the method of thinking…

One of thing things A Pocket Guide to Public Speaking talks about that I want to draw from going forward is forming a specific speech purpose. “Ask yourself: What do you want the audience to learn/do/reconsider/agree with?” (Page 50). This is an idea that I want to keep in mind a lot more before I start writing my speeches. By being able to pinpoint my intentions I believe I will be more effective in making audience laugh or making them consider a certain idea, etc.…

I’m sitting down in my English classroom, waiting for my teacher to call me up. When I hear my name being called; a rush of panic runs through my whole body, my heart starts to race, my hands start getting sweaty, and when I opened my mouth not a single word comes out. Public speaking was a challenge because I always feared people would judge me over what I had to say and it became one of my insecurities. During my junior year in high school, I decided to take speech and debate so that I could gain the confidence to speak in front of an audience. I had participate in Redlands East High School Speech Competition where I talked about how we should not judge anyone under any circumstances, using homelessness as an example.…

We had to pretend we were in that moment of time where the occasion is occurring and give a speech based off of that occasion. I did my special occasion speech on my friends Rachel and Thai’s wedding. I noticed during this speech after watching it, I did have some of the similar and same habits as I did in my persuasive speech. I used my hands a lot, I swayed my body throughout the speech, was very fidgety and used “um” and “like” a lot as word fillers. I noticed I did not have as good eye contact in this speech as I did in the persuasive speech because I had to do a lot of thinking to remember where what was going to say in the next part of the story I was giving.…

When it comes to public speaking I feel more confident talking to individuals that I know. The purpose for that is because I know them and they know me, plus there would be only positive judgement coming from them. Furthermore, thinking more in-depth of topics that I would be comfortable with is anything that I am strongly avid about which can be family, education, and even a little bit about of politics. In addition, my confidence is high when I am debating something I feel is important and giving insight to a situation that I have been through.…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…

Throughout the course, I learned different aspects of project management, and skills that can be used in the everyday life as long as involve interacting with other people. In this class I learned about how to be a better team member. This semester I was reminded of how important communication is and how people need to keep emphasizing it as one of the most important skills any person could possesses. The personality test was useful, I think it gave all of us a good way to start to see how everyone is different. It made it easier for each of us to better understand one another in how our unique personalities can be a challenge when working with others.…

I sometimes get nervous about what people are thinking about my speech when I am giving it but if I don’t judge people from the audience then I will have the mindset when I am on stage that people from the audience are not judging me. Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…
