577 About three o’clock, Barbara and I went down to the ocean to go swimming, but when we got
578 there one of the boys was on the beach fishing, so we watched. He had a long stick (about seven feet
579 long) with several sharp prongs on the end like a pitchfork, and with this he was spearing some small
580 fish. Then he took one of the fish and put it on a hook on a line and threw the line out. Within a few

After a little while, he saw a school of small
583 fish close to the shore. He quickly jumped in the water and with his arms swept the fish up onto the
584 shore. Barbara ran to help him, and they swept twenty-five to thirty small fish up on the beach.
585 I think the students ate the small fish for dinner, and we had half of the swordfish, along with
586 the coconut crab that Joseph caught last night. This was the first time I have had coconut crab, and
587 they say it is very expensive to buy, but we are able to get them free here on the beach on our island.
588 They said sometimes you can sell one for $20 to $30. Coconut crabs are very powerful; they can break
589 a rock with their claws, so we had to be careful because they keep it alive until they cook it. Ours was
590 very large. They only come out on a dark night, so late last night when there was no moonlight,
