500 Days Of Summer Satire

Improved Essays
More like 500 Days of Nothing.

500 Days of Summer is a critically acclaimed romantic movie. Although sometimes I wonder, are the critics delusional? Simply trying to find depth and complexity in a trivial plot accompanied with equally irritating characters.Surely a film with a $7 500 000 budget and a director like Marc Webb, director of The Amazing Spider Man, would prove to be a cinematic masterpiece shaping the world of media. However this movie was simply putting on the arty vibe of intellect for the easily amused, but falls flat once its lackluster story and pathetic attempts at humor bring its unimaginative script to mind. Although with a gross of over $32 000 000 ,as of 2009, there must be some fans.

The film begins with an misconception. A jaded and drained barman, Jean, collapses with exhaustion and nods off in his workplace where he is eyed by a seducing Irene and assumes he is a guest. Captivated by her Jean does not correct her presumption of him being a guest and the sticky misunderstanding becomes the start of a beautiful journey. A journey that has its bumpy roads where she at first seemingly disappears and then shows up a year later where he continues his facade. A journey filled with luxury and elegance that Irene shows Jean, that he soon realises to be eligible for her hand he must be prepared to give her the life she graves.…

“All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury, is a science fiction short story. Bradbury included a one of a kind setting, superior characterization, and an ending that allowed readers to create their own, using their imagination. The setting was unique and I would have never thought of an imaginable place like Venus. Margot is a shy and frail young girl and we notice this when Bradbury describes that she is an “old photograph” and talks like a “ghost.” Over the years, good short stories and novels have been transitioned into movie adaptation.…

    Satire In The Other Paris

Satire is an important element in writing. It’s a way for writers to take a step back and comment on something; to show how ridiculous it is without just flat out saying it. Satire is usually used as a fun way of pointing out the faults in society and current events. The Other Paris by Mavis Gallant was written in 1956, barely a decade after World War 2 finished, the world was rebuilding and marriage was seen as a safe option, a way to move forward and start a life together. The main character of The Other Paris, Carol thinks of marriage as a security blanket rather than a lifelong commitment to the one you love, she accepts a proposal from a man named Howard, a man she hadn’t even known for three weeks…simply because she assumes that nobody…

    Satire In Brave New World

Samuel L. Jackson once said, “We’ve come a long way in our thinking, but also in our moral decay.” This quote holds true today as society stays rapidly changing and people become more and more desensitized to the horrors of the world. The line between right and wrong fades and turns to a larger gray area, and many things that happen in society today make us question how we, as a collective people, ended up where we are and how we acquired the customs we have today. Aldous Huxley, in his novel Brave New World, uses a great deal of satire and exaggeration to express his concerns for the society he was born into and bring attention to the problems of moral decay, drug dependency, and brainwashing, among other things, in the world.…

    Satire On Homelessness

Homelessness has become an epidemic in America. It is a situation that is dismissed and ignored because people like to blame the homeless for their own dismay. People like to state that homelessness is a result of laziness and all they need to do is get a job. I never had to worry about whether I was going to have food on the table or a place to sleep. I have been fortunate enough to live a life where I have everything I need to live comfortably.…

There are many ways to harvest chicken and meats, but the most common one and the one you’re consuming may have been raised in the cage free environment and getting injected with steroids. That’s sound free and happy right? Well no is not, cage free stands for having thirty thousands of chicken or even more, stuck in a dark place where they cannot move. The chicken are only allowed to stand in one place, do their needs in that same place and not even get clean. Imagine your meats and poultry being injected with steroids, how bad does that sound?…

Throughout Jean Rouch’s filmic career he experiments with cinema, pushing the boundaries of ethnographic film, showcasing a range of styles. Chronicle of a Summer embarks on the simple journey of asking strangers if they are happy in order to explore how camera’s change behavior. This film epitomizes Rouch’s exploration of cinematic truth, however, I am left questioning if it is the camera or Rouch who provokes his subjects into performance. Rouch’s exploratory career can be tracked through his two films, Les Maitres Fous and Moi, un Noir, released only 3 years apart but very different, displaying his adventurous, transformative filmic style. Compared to many other ethnographers, Rouch is not concerned with capturing the reality of the lives…

Many theories have been proposed on what exactly would take place post nuclear war via multiple works of fiction. Stories like "There Will Come Soft Rains" and even games such as the Fallout series present their own ideas on what the world will be like after it has been engulfed in nuclear fire. These representations are all incredibly interesting and provocative. However, in the story, "Searching for Summer," readers are presented with a world where most have given up hope. Interestingly enough, the story does not go for the "rugged waist-land" stereotype, but instead introduces its readers subtly to the moral and ethical issues that have amassed over the years due nuclear fallout.…

No offense to film critics, but it doesn 't take a genius to tell a good movie apart from a waste of time you 'll never get back. Motion picture films date back to the late 1800s, each film different from the last. However, that doesn 't mean everything that makes it onto a theatre is worth viewing. There are certain components that make a great film and can be proven true throughout all genres no matter when they premiered. Now, I 've seen my fair share of films and have come to the conclusion that a film worthwhile is one that is able to attract the audiences with familiar sense of prevalence that is able to leave an impression and invites you to watch it over and over again.…

This is because the work is out of the ordinary, it seems to me almost impossible to imagine a play established in a single act, with four characters all of them located in the same room. In addition, each character in turn is exceedingly rare. Where it has been seen that mother and father are living in garbage cans, merely by the fact that they do not have legs? Even the main character Hamm is out of the blue. Personally, I like the fact that a work that at first sight seems to be boring manages to become so entrancing and popular.…
