I discovered I was white. “Not all white people are white supremacists, but all white people benefit from white supremacy”. She tried prying our eyes open to see that not all white people are chauvinistic but because you are white, prejudice or not, benefit from the racially structured fundamentals that is America. Yes, even 16 year old naive me. How though? I’ve even muttered a racially intended slur in my life! Professor Lee would soon go on to explain “whiteness” is a standard where background against difference can be determined. “For example, it’s “white” until further notice. It’s “white” until proven otherwise. It’s “white or it’s the “other”, and it has nothing to do with actual numbers, percentages of “minority” population.” It has to do with the culture of power. …show more content…
Black culture may have been created within black communities or even black Americans, we have crossed dangerous territory for thinking black culture for an actual cultural experience and ultimately devaluing the real human experience because black Culture is being used to sell a product or idea that’s being reinterpreted by white
