Roosevelt, but more importantly the fearfulness in the Republicans minds “ that their party might be permanently in the minority”(1). Thomas Jefferson's career is laced with numerous accomplishments, which is one of the reasons I would love to have dinner with him. Although I feel as if he would rather shift the discussion towards my character, I would not hesitate to discuss his achievements. In your own words please describe the growing division between teenagers and older generations in the 1950s. What was it about rock 'n' roll that made it an incubator for alienation and rebelliousness? Before the WWII, teenagers were different in that they had limited freedom, scarce resources for making any purchases that were solely for their wants, not necessarily for their or the family’s needs, and the span of time that comprised a “carefree youth” that we now take for granted did not exist for majority of the young people before the advent of the Baby Boomer generation. After WWII, the economy in the U.S. was booming and parents, mindful of the hardships they experienced in their youth, could indulge their children with material things such as allowances that they could spend at their discretion.…

The 1950’s was an era that embraced change; soldiers returned home from war, the economy boomed, and new families were being created at a more rapid rate than ever before. Historical author Andrew Dunar claims that, more than ever, “people of the fifties living in the United States had reason to believe that theirs was the American century” (Dunar 167). This dream consisting of white picket fences, new homes and families, and strictly enforced gender norms was slowly beginning to feel the push from societal critics to change the previously accepted norms and values. In response to all of the changes…
