5 Paragraph Assignment Analysis

Throughout high school, my written assignments were almost always a five-paragraph structure or, in other words, a "keyhole essay." As a first-year business major student, I have not been assigned written assignments since high school so I never realized the negatives of a keyhole essay; It simplifies a lot of the topic by narrowing it down to three main paragraphs with evidence. Writing a basic five-paragraph assignment limits a lot of important information no matter how broad the topic is. I am excited to learn different ways to advance my writing skills through different formats rather than the basic high school structure. Although I may not be a great writer, I definitely enjoy writing. For the majority of the time, I have no complaints when given a writing assignment. I find myself expressing myself much more clear through the process of writing rather than verbally doing so.

I have many ways of communicating with friends, family, strangers, employees, and professors. My communication varies depending in which audience I am communicating to no matter if they are in the same category. For example, I do not communicate to a specific friend the same way I communicate to other friends. Also, I do not communicate with professors the same way. I communicate with them more professionally than I would with friends but I have different ways to approach a professor. For example, if a professor were stricter I would never joke around with him or her. If a professor were a little more lenient and was very easy to get along with, I would maybe say an appropriate joke. I normally find myself caring about the ways I communicate with professors rather than friends or family members. When I communicate with a friend and say something unordinary, I would care for a bit but eventually, get over it. If I communicate with an adult, perhaps a professor, and say something unordinary, I would not get over

Write of what parts of the text were the most difficult to read, and to identify how many times a passage was read before some understanding was achieved. This has been actually one of my best weeks so far, week 6. The topics were linear equations and non linear equations and I was able to remember about them so this time my brain was not that disconnected as normally is with algebra which made me happy. Do not get me wrong, I still had to read multiple times some sections that caused a little confusion, but again it was not that bad and at the end everything came back to me, this time it was a lot easy for me to figure out some of the book samples, except of course the ones that had multiple fractions I am still under pressure with those.…

Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

    • Communicating with adults – it’s important that we are sensitive to the need of other adults, particularly if they have communication difficulties. It is possible that we will adapt with them without realising that. We often change the way we react to others, depending on the way in which they react to us. For example, if we are speaking to parent or carer, we might make sure that we are facing them and giving eye contact. Often schools will send our or gather information in particular way, email or letters.…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

I felt this way because I kept on thinking who is this person I will have as my mentor who will I have to interview. I was stepping out of my comfort zone by talking to someone I never met or knew. My beliefs on reading and writing in the field before I did the interview was that I knew that reading was involved with the interview and writing also but I did not know how much was throughout the career field. To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

I have always considered my relationship with writing to be very insignificant. Although I enjoy spending time verbally expressing my thoughts and feelings to others, it becomes difficult when these thoughts and feelings are expressed through writing. Throughout my adolescent years, I would often receive feedback for my writing given by the teacher in the form of a grade. Being unable to effectively organize my thoughts and ideas into words and sentences, I would feel reluctant to continue writing confidently whenever I received an undesirable grade.…
