Blurry photos - it happens to the best of us. The best way to avoid a blurry photo is by choosing to shoot with a denominator that is faster that the focal length. For example, if your focal length is 50mm, then you should use 1/60th of a second or faster. Another example is if your focal length is 300mm, then you would use 1/400th second. Does that make sense? This means that a wide-angle is usually the default setting for majority of photographers. However, when you’re shooting for portraits, a wide-angle setting is not flattering to your subject. Zoom in to the telephoto end of your lens to avoid creating an exaggerated photo of your subject. Your perspective will become flatter, generating a much more attractive portrait. Also, always be sure to turn off the digital zoom, or else you’ll risk image quality.
5. Relying Solely on Post Processing
Post processing software is great! It can really help make the photography process go a lot smoother. However, many professionals and novices rely on it, to the point that it makes them a lazy photographer. Photographers stop caring about trying to get the right shot because they know they can fix it in editing. The better your photo is prior to post processing, the less time you’ll spend in post processing. To get the best photo, check and adjust your settings. Test your photos, by checking the composition, white balance, exposure and lighting.
Photography is a skill that is very nuanced and takes time to perfect. Try not to be hard on yourself when you make mistakes because everything is a learning process. Most importantly, never be scared to get creative and try something new for fear of failure. Practice makes perfect. Remember to have fun.
