I stood in the heat patiently sighting for a silver Toyota with a bobble head dog sitting in the front. Here she is, pulling up ten steps away from where I stand. Somebody needs to have better parking accuracy. I dragged my heavy backpack and walked to the door with an exhausted smile.

I had to reiterate for the third time of how twelve and twenty are two different numbers. The little dragon was defeated by a simple math problem. I bursted out laughing. He slammed his face on the table and snored like a boiling kettle. I brought in a cup of ice cold water and began watering his face until he flinches and raises from his dreams. He was heated and let out a roar.

“A… A-sharp… B” I keep moving up the scale until it matches the note I desired. I am writing a song but my piano is not willing to collaborate. If I had taken a proper piano class, I could have at least inherited some of the pitching skills. For now, I will keep trying out all the keys and hope one would closely match up to the pitch.

The police car's flashing light by the apartments across the street bounced off my wall. The world is crazy in here and crazy out there. I cannot wait to grow up and go about my own adventure. Family is something I value, but there is so much more out there to be aware of: risks, challenges, and opportunities. One day my mother will not be watching anymore and I will spread my wings to take a flight far away. I will bring back knowledge, pride, reputations and things that my parents have always been working hard for us. One day I will open my own business to sell the next most-wanted technology. One day I can travel the world on my own feet. One day big dreams will come closer to me. One

Early in November of 2015, I visited a training session for the Scdoris sled dogs. Jerry had been very receptive to a visit, recalling both of our love for dogs. He had asked me to arrive between 7:45 and 8:00 AM. Driving down the gravel road towards their house, I could see a truck, as it watered down the road. The driver pulled over as I caught the water truck.…

Ben, Jerry, and Me An arctic chill crept across my spine in time with the goosebumps demarcating my excitement as I flung the doors open, eyes roving the fluorescent freezer until they finally landed upon my treasure: the Tonight Dough. With my spoon as sword and the treadmill as shield, I sliced into pure euphoria, excavating chunks of ice cream then depositing their riches into my ravenous mouth. Though ice cream has always been a part of my life, the Tonight Dough was not always my delicacy of choice.…

The very first variable I run into is parking. There’s no close spots because everyone managed to get there the second the park opened. As I creep around the parking lot, at last appears a single parking spot that isn’t 4 miles away. But my gripped hands loosen as my wide eyes narrow on a smart car tucked between two SUVs.…

My mind was running its own thoughts as it planned the day I had ahead of me. I walked into my parents’ room, taking a sip of hot coffee from my mother’s mug. I knew she hated it when she would suck her teeth together and gesture me to get my own. The taste of the coffee would get me up and if I tried to make it like hers, I’d fail. She would always be rushing to get the first things done in my father’s family business, the smell of iron running through her oil stained t-shirts.…

It wouldn’t be too long until I could get out of bed and wake my parents, my four-year old self thought. I was always the first one up at the crack of dawn, but I ended up getting yelled at if I awoke their somber sleep. Once my stomach started growling and gurgling, I decide that it’s time to stampede my mom and dad’s room. The bright sun singed my eyes as it entered through all of the opened windows of my home.…
