For this extended assignment I have chosen to look at how behaviour may affect children's or young people's development. Negative behaviour can be seen when the children's and young people's needs are not being met such as lack of sleep and when they are hungry. Difficult behaviour can be caused by a trauma or a crisis that has happened in the child's life. Children may show this kind of behaviour because they want to be the centre of attention or if they are not getting their own way and they may behave inappropriately in order to get their own way. Other examples that could affect children's behaviour include if a member of the family in the child's life such as mother or father has left and they may think that it's their fault .Also…

Behavior modification program: The behavioral modification program would include a printed chart in which a customized list of desired social skills, family interactions, behaviors and chores that would have to be completed by the child each day to earn credits. Every evening the child will collect the number of credits he/she has earned for the day for positive behaviors and interactions with others. Each positive behavior will be worth a certain amount of credit that is appropriate for the behavior. Negative behaviors will require a small percentage of credits earned to be docked according the level of negative behavior exhibited. There will be a second chart in which the child will be able to spend his/her credits on items that are not a…
The program that was selected to research from list in The California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse for Child Welfare in Attachment and Biobehavioral catch-up (ABC). The program was rated by CEBC in the area of infant and toddler mental health programs (birth to 3) and parent training programs. Target population includes caregivers of infants 6 months to 2 years, who have experienced early adversity. In this paper, I will provide a brief description of the program, and the programs’ goals. In addition, I will briefly discuss the rating associated with the service provided and finalize with a personal reflection of the program.…
Richard's Response Alice Park, the author of "Teens Are Just as Sedentary as 60 Year Olds" states,"The most alarming data came from children and teens"(4). Teens are not exercising enough each day but rather than just stay home all day doing noting. Children/teens should at least do something that involves exercising which is better than just staying home being inactive all day. First, fitness is important during the teen years. Some teens are just as sedentary as 60 year olds.…

The current obesity rate for South Dakota high school students is 14.7%, ranking South Dakota as the 12th highest state out of 43 with high school obesity. Historically, the obesity rate of high school students was lower than 14.7% with 1999-2001 being the lowest at 7.5%, but has been steadily climbing year after year to an astonishing doubled rate. With the trend of adult obesity at 30.4% and still rising, there is no doubt that high school obesity is a direct causation to adult obesity. An abstract published in 2011 from the National Library of Medicine states that obesity is a problem in the United States and South Dakota, with South Dakota’s obesity being higher than the national prevalence. South Dakota’s Department of Health has been…
Chapter 32, Behavior Assessment and Management in School Consider the following scenario: Mary is a tenth grade student whom you know has questions about gender identity. You allow the student to use the health office bathroom in an effort to provide support with these personal issues. Lately, Mary has been picking fights with other students or having verbal altercations with staff on days 1 and 3 of the school's 6-day calendar rotation. As a result, on these days Mary either spends the remainder of the day in "in-school" detention, or your health office for treatment of the fight injuries, then to detention.…

A study by Xiangrong Shi, Larry Tubb, Sheryl Fingers, Shande Chen, and James Caffrey (2013) investigated the associations of physical activity with children's academic and behavioral problems. The purpose of the study was to determine if there were was a relationship between poor diet and exercise and academic and behavioral difficulty in young children. The hypothesis was that lifestyle behaviors such as diet and physical activity are interrelated and could have a significant impact on physical health, and likewise, the academic performance and behavior of pre-adolescent children. The study used data from a population of 3,708 children ages 7 to 14 years old with the permission from parents through a community Children's Health Assessment.…
Is football dangerous for our youth? Do you think that football is dangerous for our youth? I don’t think football is dangerous because you can get hurt the same way you do in football in any sport you do. I play football myself and I have never gotten hurt before and I am blessed for that.…
“Assessment of Physical Activity Levels of 3rd and 4th Grade Children Using Pedometers during Physical Education Class” 1. This research study was also found on the ERIC database. After reading and analyzing two studies that discussed strategies on encouraging physical activity and/or education in the schools, the importance of who is teaching the class, and then also the support the school gets for physical activity, I found this study interesting since it dealt with the actual physical education class and what the children were actually getting out of the class. A school may have physical education classes but if the students are not benefitting from the thirty to forty-five minutes spent in the class, then it does them no good. I searched…
“Inactivity is associated with the tripling of childhood obesity since 1970” (Jarret). Recess could dramatically curb that number much lower then that of previous years. Since technology is taking over, most children spend the majority of their free time at home playing video games, watching television, or searching the web. Fifteen to twenty minutes of physical activity a day is all that most children need to stay physically fit and healthy. If not, the lack of physical activity could prove detrimental, and the childhood obesity rate could be, once again, on the rise.…
