Many parents believe that it is important to raise your children with religion, they practice their beliefs and make sure to involve their children from a young age, some parents even force it from a young age up to adulthood. Parents can expose their child to religion but as your child becomes older, it shouldn't be forced on them if they don’t believe in it. A lot of young children are under the impression that if they do something wrong they are sinning or something similar to children who don’t do something because they think they’ll get caught. These should not be what keeps children from doing the wrong thing, children shouldn’t do bad things because they know it's bad and they have good morals, not because of a punishment that may be in store. The Trinity of Religions Throughout Chicano literature, one sees a constant conflict of religions, with everything from the mythology to folklore to Catholicism taking root deep in Chicano heritage. Rudolfo Anaya sees these religions not as three separate entities, but rather, as three religions that could be combined into one, seeking truth in the heart of man rather than the philosophy of scholars and theologians. In Bless Me, Ultima, Anaya presents aspects of mythology, folklore, and Catholicism in order to form a syncretic religion in Ultima which influences Antonio’s God and religion itself. Ultima’s influence on Antonio is common to Chicano culture. According to Luiz Leon, “…religion, particularly community-based or "folk" Catholicism in the Mexican Americas, is constituted largely through uninstitutionalized practices that are narrated by women” (208).…

A child requires a solid moral upbringing in order to understand how to make right moral decisions. Robert Coles’ piece “I Listen to My Parents and Wonder What They Believe” discusses the role that parents play in a moral upbringing and the effect that little to no moral guidance has on children. He chronicles his interviews of several children discussing and considering the necessity of moral guidance. Moral guidance is necessary because through morals, children learn how to distinguish right from wrong in different situations. Children must learn morals to respect their Creator and love other people.…

In the excerpt from Don’t Believe Everything You Think, Thomas Kida discusses the human belief system and the factors that influence them the most. He exemplifies how our beliefs may correlate to us making poor decisions when it comes to spending money and falling for quackery. Laslty, Kida highlights some major aspects of memory that many are unaware of- the fact that our recollection of past events are not always as accurate as we may believe, and that they are capable of fluctuating based on our feelings, mood, or environment. One of the points Thomas Kida made in this excerpt is the obvious yet so often overlooked fact that we are greatly influenced by the people we surround ourselves with and those we love.…

The reason the experiences of young children lead them to view truth differently to adults, is that children have brains that are way less developed than adults. This is the reason babies think things cease to exist when playing peekaboo (And at our age, not really anymore.) This is why we study Neuroscience, the study of the nervous system. Some children will think that when something is put in a drawer, it disappeared, when it is just inside the drawer. This is how Dillard…

There are many factors that contribute into a person’s religion choice, and can often not be a result based solely on only one’s beliefs, but often a result of pressures surrounding them. It was found that encouraging thoughts of God, in both atheists and religious people, resulted in higher voluntary and generous behavior rates (Sasaki et.al., n.p.). This statement shows that, even in a non believer’s life, religious thoughts that surround a person have a high impact on that person. With these influences surrounding a person, there are often pressures to accept these beliefs, that many people eventually cave into. Many people choose to adopt Mormonism as a result of peer and societal pressures, environmental influences, and interpretation…

His aspects were quite shocking to me belonging to a religious culture. Being a Muslim, I expected that a Muslim child to also believe that there is one God that had created this universe and is the most omnipotent. He is not visible, but he does subsist. Consequently, the following conclusion which I made out of this incident was either he is getting these ideas from school or his school mates which is according to me, engulfing a different culture or his parents are not bringing up his beliefs in strong way or has no idea of how other cultures are influencing him.…
