This idea drove imperialists crazy because even though the country was behind in different economic aspects people were still excited about political ties to other countries. During the war a fight between the Americans and the Spanish over a specific power grew into a patriotic mindset. Now the Americans believed that they could play a key role in the Cuban independence because America was so great in their own views. Americans believed with their increased confidence that the Spanish would be thrown off in their leadership in hopes the Spanish were frightened because their confidence was slim to none. Many of them believed that an increase in trade and an openness in the borders would lead to the pollution of the United States by introducing the new different races. Along with different races being allowed in most of them believed it would affect industrial workers wages and conditions because cheaper labor would be more available. Even with cheap labor and pollution they were still other reasons why anti-federalists were against U.S. involvement in the war.
