I come from a Turkish community where most of my friends are Turkish native speakers. Since they all came to the United States after graduating from high school, they’re not very fluent in English. They always come to me for help when writing their essays or when they do not understand their assignments. I think one of the most impactful “one-on-one” tutoring experiences I had was when I had to revise and tutor my friend on writing her personal essay for her college application. She didn’t have to write a personal statement when she started at Bergen Community College…

I have always been interested in learning and using new ideas. Throughout my life, I have invariably drawn from my life experiences, newly learned ideas and my continuing education to help problem-solve sensibly and realistically allowing me to move forward or help others reach their goals. Although I have no formal teaching experience, in my past work and involvement in organized sports, I have repeatedly used the Progressive philosophy. When dealing with 13 & 14 year olds many situations arise such as bullying, personality clashes or simply not understanding a drill or play. I deal with these situations by asking questions to stimulate a discussion, allowing them to draw on past experiences; positive or negative, consequently allowing them to come up with a solution or grasp the knowledge they are seeking.…

After 2 weeks of tireless searching I landed a job at Ariya Capital; an experienced developer and investor in clean energy and infrastructure projects throughout sub-Saharan Africa. It was actually much more advanced than any job I ever thought of getting.…

was sitting in the corner of the court room as the Child Protective Service (CPS) caseworker read back a recent interview she had with a young teenage girl. In excruciating detail, they read aloud the intimate confessions of how this girl had been sexual abused by her father. I cringed, as the case worker quoted the girl's description of her abuse to the court; explaining when and how everything had happened to her. My whole body tightened as knots formed in my throat and my hands tightly gripped the bottom of my chair. The caseworker then explained how their investigation had found physical evidence to support the testimony they had received and with the help of the judge they would be able to keep her out of contact with her father.…
