4-H Skills And Experience

Decent Essays
The skills and experiences that I have gained from 4-H at many time differ from the education that I receive at school, in the classroom. Through 4-H I have gained the valuable skill of leadership. I have been able to gain this skill through many different opportunities, such as being able to hold a different club officer position each year and being the head of a service project. With each position that was held, there was a unique set of responsibilities to go with it. The responsibilities have ranged from leading a club meeting to planning the club activities for meetings as sunshine officer. I have also had the opportunity to lead service projects that brought together the members of my club with different groups in our community. For

This pledge is not just words it is a way to live. 4-H is a organization for youth that was created in 1902, the purpose was to teach about citizenship, responsibility, leadership, and other life skills. I have also been involved with my Future Business Leaders of America chapter and am the president of the club. Being so helps me give to the community and school by starting fundraisers for the March of Dimes, running cereal drives for the food pantry, and donating time to other organizations. I lead the meetings and discuss with my chapter what they want to do and what imprint they want to leave on our school as a chapter. FBLA has helped me reach out to my community like all of my other leadership roles I play a part…

The 4-H program has impacted my life in many ways; first it has allowed me to discover and nurture my passion for serving children in foster care, as well as, their families. In addition, I have gained the skill of public speaking, especially extemporaneous speeches, as well as, learning to set and reach goals; rand ealizing that "mistakes are proof that you are trying." In addition, I have learned the power of true friendship and can truly say my 4-H friends are also my family. This amazing program has shown me that I lead best by inspiration; by inspiring others to go above and beyond their comfort zone and to not be afraid of failure. I began 4-H as a high school sophomore afraid of everyone, from the cashier at the store, to my teacher…

Auburn Application Describe extracurricular activities, including leadership positions, in which you have participated. My most significant leadership role has been my position as a color guard captain and marching band leader. I have learned to be observant of negative attitudes and how to avoid allowing situations to arise in which team mates might negatively criticize each other. I have also learned to maintain a productive atmosphere when our supervisors are busy with administrative organization. Most importantly, I have learned to lead by example, which includes maintaining a positive and energetic attitude and holding my self-standards high and always being respectful to the adults involved in the marching band program.…

4-H, I learned responsibility not only for myself but to accomplish the task at hand, e.g. taking care, washing, cleaning pens/stalls for the animals at the fair. I may sound a bit redundant, but like in the FFA you will make the constant of friends and competition, and this friendly competition is what makes it fun to be in organizations like 4-H. I am currently the Secretary of the Rural Raiders 4-H club in Foster County, and I am expected to help record membership, attendance, and the meetings for my club. This last experience was an extension to responsibility, and responsibility is a lesson that nobody will not get enough of whether it is direct or implied. Some of todays kids do not know responsibility because they do not have the agriculture…

The summer before my junior year, I interned for Senator Rob Portman, which was my first hands-on experience with politics. I spent over 120 hours making phone calls, attending political functions, and talking to voters in Ohio. This experience helped me realize how important it is to delve deeper into the reason behind someone's opinion. During that same summer, I attended the Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Camp, which radically changed my leadership style: I finally understood just how important trust, communication, and understanding are in being a good leader. I took what I learned from the Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Camp to transition my 4-H club from advisor-led to member-led.…

I have gained several skills though my 4-H experiences that I will utilize later in my life. 4-H first taught me, through my projects, time management, responsibility, and patience. I learned that starting the project just days before the fair was not ideal and caused significant stress and the possibility of having a project that I would have like to expand on. I also had to learn how to balance finishing my projects, school work, chores, and social life. With my livestock projects I learned responsibility from a young age.…

When it comes to leadership experiences, it can be different for everyone. Some may highlight their biggest leadership experience, while others choose to highlight the miniscule moments. Being a leader is a person who leads by doing, just as we learn in 4-H. A person can lead by doing in a large and small setting. I choose to highlight the miniscule moments, as I feel it has impacted others the most.
